If you can all recall the “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” leading star Coco Martin didn’t have that much fame until later on his career. In fact, Coco started out small by acting in the independent film industry and won numerous acting awards, leading to his rise to fame as he was signed by the Kapamilya network ABS-CBN and has starred in some of their teleseryes before making it big.
It seems like having good and award acting chops run in the family as Coco Martin’s younger brother has recently claimed the top acting honors in the film “Pamilya Ordinaryo” last week at the Harlem International Film Festival that took place in New York City.
Both main cast of the said indy film won the top prizes as his leading lady Hasmine Kilip receiving the best actress award, while Coco’s younger Ronwaldo Martin won as best actor, early himself his ever acting award.
In an interview by the Inquirer, Ronwaldo said the following: “Finally, I got to hook a trophy. I offer this award to my family: My mama and papa, to my siblings, especially kuya Dheng (Coco) and my grandmother.”
Pamilya Ordinaryo is directed by Eduardo Roy Jr. and is about the story of two teenage parents who steal on the streets to make a living. It has also been awarded as the Best Film from the 2016 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival awards night and also won the BNL People’s Choice Award at the 2016 Venice Days film festival dedicated to independent features.
