On Tuesday, April 18, a horrible accident occurred in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija when a LeoMaric mini bus lost its brakes and fell into a deep ravine carrying at least 40 passengers while on their way to Candon, Ilocos Sur.
Reports indicated that at least 26 people were killed during the horrific accident while 20 other passengers were injured and are now receiving medical attention in a hospital at Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya. Latest report increases the death toll to 32.
According to Carrangalan police officer-in-charge Senior Inspector Robert de Guzman, the accident happened past 11:00 a.m. in Barangay Capintalan. Moreover, he also said that spectators saw the bus fell into a 80-100 foot(30 meters) ravine that totally wrecked the bus.
Nueva Ecija Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office member Michael Calma said in a radio dzBB interview that a child was killed in the accident along with 18 female and 7 male passengers.
Netizens also uploaded videos on the Facebook page YouScoop showing the rescue operations conducted by the authorities.
Last February a similar accident happened when a bus carrying numerous college students lost its brakes on s downhill street and collided with a concrete electrical post in Tanay town in Rizal province east of Manila that killed 15 people in the process.
