The GMA 7’s Primetime Queen Marian Rivera has indeed ‘rocked’ the social media as she became viral because of her stand on the use of English language as a thing to measure someone’s wit.
The said viral post/statement is popularized on the social media by the Kaloka FB page, garnering an average of 30K strong commendable likes and almost 13K shares. Many netizens also shared their thoughts and experiences regarding her viral statement.
Here is her viral post:
Netizens have expressed their great support on Marian Rivera’s stand, most especially in her argument in the use of English language as a sole tool for the measurement of intelligence. A certain netizen named Bathalumang Gilmore posted his reaction and analysis based on his studies, and his comment has gained the most likes from the readers. Here is his comment:
“In graduate studies we have the subject Comparative Models of Education where we compare the educ system of diff countries to the Philippines. I learned that those countries with the best educational system like Japan, South Korea emphasizes the importance of their mother tongue in their instructional delivery. One of the main reasons kung bakit one of the best models ang educ system nila. I am not against with those who are good in English, in fact, advantage yun pero sana yung mentality ng tao pagdating sa wika, iyon ang mabago. Salamat po!”
Undoubtedly, language plays a vital role in a country’s economic, political, and cultural growth. And, Marian Rivera’s statement just reminded each and everyone of us a simple yet very important thing. English language is definitely not a tool to measure one’s cognitive ability and schooling doesn’t determine someone’s wisdom. It is determine by our experiences and struggles in life. It is what defines us.
