A 16-year old girl battling severe depression felt like the world is on her shoulders that she couldn’t even comb her hair. When one woman, a hairstylist saw this, she felt determined to restore life into the teen’s tangled crown – her hair. After two long days of tedious work, the hairstylist made the teen smile again.
Hairstylist Kayley Olsson saw this 16-year old girl in Capri College, her hair was a matted and tangled mess. She made a trip to Olsson’s salon because she will have to take pictures for the upcoming new school year. She told Olsson to shave off her ‘worthless’ hair, which she thought was beyond salvageable.
On Olsson’s Facebook post that went viral, she wrote that the girl, who was struggling with severe depression, ‘felt so down and so worthless she couldn’t even brush her hair, she only got up to use the restroom’.
It broke Olsson’s heart when the teen felt she felt worthless. So, rather than shaving the girl’s hair off, the kind hairstylist spent hours repairing the girl’s tangled hair.
Olsson further said on her post that it was one of the hardest experiences in her career. She also said that The girl cried the entire time they were combing out her hair.
She also emphasized how Mental Health could affect even teens, and that it should not be taken for granted, that parents should pay attention to what their children are going through.
The post gained positive comments from netizens, one Facebook user said, “You did a very WONDERFUL thing! Thank you for being one of the good ones who just set an amazing example for others and more importantly, saved this girl!”
We hope and pray that this amazing transformation will give the courage she needs to spread her wings and be the beautiful butterfly that she is destined to be.
