Police authorities apprehended a mother from Maryland after kicking her 4-year old daughter’s for not brushing her teeth. The woman who was identified as 20-year-old Iris Hernandez-Rivas was found guilty of first-degree child abuse after physically harming her daughter according to investigations conducted by police.
Hernandez-Rivas dialed 911 last January 26 at around 12:30 p.m. after her daughter fell unconscious at their apartment. Rescuers arrived and immediately discovered her daughter lying on the bathtub.
She then later confessed to police that she kicked the stomach of her daughter because she didn’t brush her teeth.
The 4-year old was immediately rushed to Adventist Healthcare Shady Grove Medical Center in Rockville, with doctors discovering multiple bruises in her body upon arrival and in critical condition.
Shortly after, the child was not able to recover from the incident and ultimately succumbed to her injuries that led to her death.
Hernandez-Rivas has been slapped with first-degree assault as medical examiners carefully determine her daughter’s cause of death. Until then, police are waiting for the results to also determine whether charges against her will be heightened.
